Titel: Can Webstats monitor a remote website?
Beitrag von John Motyer am 13.02.22 um 09:38:52
Good morning, Holger.

I would like to move a couple of my websites to a new hosting company (FlamePix), but they allow only their own Gallery software, and they will not allow me to install Webstats on their server.

I have a solution as a possible work-around, but I don't know if Webstats is capable of working like this.

On the website that I wish to monitor, I have the following in the footer, to trace all page accesses:
<!--  Start of JMM's section for phpWebStat5 -->

<script type="text/javascript" src="https://www.serendipity.cloud/webstats-gwl/pws.php?mode=js"></script>

<noscript><img src="https://www.serendipity.cloud/webstats-gwl/pws.php?mode=img" style="border:0; width:1px; height:1px" alt="noscript-img"></noscript>

<!--  End of section for phpWebStat5 -->
The domain that the above script is located in, is https://www.GalleryWings.life/

The script points to another domain & subfolder, where I have Webstats installed, which is https://Serendipity.cloud/webstats-gwl/

I don't know if Webstats is capable of tracking that GalleryWings.life website, but if it is, licensing aside, I'm not sure how to configure Webstats.  Currently this is what I have, but it is not working:

Is Webstats able to do what I wish to accomplish, by tracking one website but with Webstats installed on a remote website?

Thank you in advance & have yourself a great day.

Regards,
John

Let me clarify the above problem & question.

I have a website on domain1, but I am unable to install phpWebStat on it due to their policies.

Can I install phpWebStat on domain2, to track visitors on domain1 ?

I tried to see if it would work, by placing the following code in the footer on domain 1, but I can't get it to work possibly due to me not having General Settings configured correctly where phpWebStat is installed on domain2.
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://domain1/webstats/pws.php?mode=js"></script>

<noscript><img src="https://domain1/webstats/pws.php?mode=img" style="border:0; width:1px; height:1px" alt="noscript-img"></noscript>
Thank you in advance.

Hi John,

sure this is possible to track "foreign" domains.
Just put the tracking code in every site you want to track and follow our instructions and set the desired domains you want to track. According to your example, the domains gallerywings.life and serendipity.cloud should both be set.

Kind regards
Reimar

This is working perfectly, thank you.

However, I am unsure of the pricing & legality of how I have this multiple-domain tracking set up.

I am monitoring 4 sites from 1 single domain, however, instead of listing the 4 sites under Which domains should be tracked by the stat?, I instead have 4 installations of phpWebStats on that domain, each tracking their respective domain.  Example:

https://www.serendipity.cloud/webstats-serendipity tracks the domain that my 4 installations of phpWebStats is running on

https://www.serendipity.cloud/webstats-jenjo tracks my jenjo.family domain with its own phpWebStats

https://www.serendipity.cloud/webstats-gallerywings tracks my gallerywings.life domain with its own phpWebStats

https://www.serendipity.cloud/webstats-panaurorastudio tracks my panaurora-studio.com domain with its own phpWebStats

Of the 3 remote domains that I am tracking (gallerywings.life, jenjo.family & panaurora-studio.com), I have already purchased a license for gallerywings.life & jenjo.family previously.

Does your back-end domain-checker check for the domain that your phpWebStats is running on, or does it instead check the domain that is being monitored?

The reason that I am using the above method, instead of running phpWebStats directly on those domains, is that those 3 websites will not allow anything installed on those domains, except for their specific software.

Thank you in advance & have a great day.

Regards,
John

I seem to have answered my own question, as I am able to track 4 websites with 4 separate phpWebstat installations on the same domain, notwithstanding the legality of doing so.

But I do have 1 little hiccup, in that when I am looking at the GeoIP module, for those 4 websites, I can unlock & see the IPs of visitors, but when I click on Plugin Configuration, the Plugin Configuration window opens fine, but at the bottom of the window it says:

Zitat:
File rights of the file "config.php" not yet set or set incorrectly!

The /plugins/geoip/config.php are all set to 666.

What config.php file is causing that error to appear?

Thanks in advance.

John

Hello John,

in your stats "webstats-panaurorastudio" and "webstats-serendipity" the permissions for the plugins don't seem to be set yet.

The plugin pack contains the manual_en.txt file that can help you with this.

Thanks for pointing that out.  All is good now.
